Lai Ching-te, the 64-year-old candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party, who won the presidential election held on January 13 in Taiwan, officially took office after an oath ceremony. After taking office, Lai appointed Cho Jung-tai as prime minister. Meanwhile, his deputy will be Taiwan’s former representative to the United States, Hsiao Bi-khim.
