Heavy rains triggered a landslide in the Marra Mountains of Sudan’s Darfur region, burying a village and killing more than 1,000 people, according to the Sudan Liberation Army. Only one survivor was reported.
Local sources warned that eight nearby villages with around 20,000 residents are also at risk, with many families fleeing to safer areas. Roads to the region remain cut off, hampering rescue efforts. Darfur’s governor appealed for urgent international aid, calling the disaster a humanitarian crisis.
