The lava flow from the Cumbre Vieja on the Spanish Island of La Palma spread over an area of 434 hectares to date. Partial collapse of the volcanic crater caused increase in lava flow. According to Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (INVOLCAN), approximately 250,000 tons of sulfur dioxide has been emitted from the volcano since September 19. The lava destroyed roughly 35 kilometers of road, and caused great damage to more than a thousand households on the island, Copernicus stated.
