Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad announced that an explosion, believed to be caused by pagers, killed 8 people, including a child, and injured 2,750. Over 200 of the injured are in critical condition, and hospitals in southern Lebanon are overwhelmed. Efforts are underway to transfer patients to other facilities.
Hezbollah accused Israel of carrying out the attack, holding them responsible for civilian casualties. Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makari condemned the attack and reported it to the United Nations.
