Vilnius Airport in Lithuania was closed for the sixth time this month after weather balloons from neighboring Belarus entered its airspace. Authorities said flights were suspended for three hours as a safety precaution.
Officials claim smugglers are using the balloons to transport cigarettes, accusing Belarus of ignoring the activity. Lithuania has since ordered border closures and authorized shooting down balloons entering its airspace.
The disruption has stranded hundreds of trucks at the Belarus border and caused flight delays for more than 16,000 passengers this month.
