Localization at Türkiye’s Akkuyu Nuclear Plant Tops 50%

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced during Russian Energy Week in Moscow that the localization rate at Türkiye’s Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant has surpassed 50 percent, marking a milestone for the country’s nuclear industry. Bayraktar said this experience will ease the implementation of Türkiye’s second and third nuclear projects in Sinop and Thrace.

Highlighting that Türkiye’s electricity demand is projected to triple by 2055, Bayraktar reaffirmed the country’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2053 and establishing 20 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2050. He noted that nuclear power will provide at least 15 percent of Türkiye’s electricity in the 2050s, emphasizing the strategic partnership with Russia’s Rosatom and the growing role of Turkish-trained nuclear engineers.
