As Christmas approaches, London is decking its streets and squares with festive decorations. In a bid to raise awareness about climate change, some of the city’s iconic shopping destinations are recycling last year’s displays. This year, to conserve energy, the lights will shine for slightly shorter durations each day.
The local council reports that the lights use eco-friendly LED bulbs made from recycled polymer, resulting in a 75 percent energy saving compared to standard bulbs. These Christmas lights typically illuminate the city until January 6.
Amid the holiday season, London will host various Christmas-themed activities, including markets, workshops, concerts, and the renowned Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.
