Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, could not attend the ceremony in Oslo, Norway. Her daughter, Ana Corina Sosa Machado, accepted the award.
The Nobel Committee said Machado is safe and expected in Oslo soon. In an audio message, Machado dedicated the prize to the Venezuelan people and thanked those who helped her attempt to travel.
Her daughter read Machado’s prepared remarks, which referenced her removal from the 2024 presidential race and highlighted opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
