The return of Syrian refugees in Türkiye following the fall of the Assad regime in Syria was also felt in the Samsun province. It was observed that many of the shops operated by Syrians on Saadet Street in the 19 Mayıs Neighborhood, where the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management is located and is and usually is majorly crowded by Syrians, were closed, put up for sale, and that there was a significant decrease in the number of customers of other tradesmen in the area.
“Since the Directorate of Migration Management is also located where my shop is, it was a very busy area for foreigners. The vast majority of the tradesmen were Syrians and foreign nationals. Foreign tradesmen left. Syrian citizens are returning to their country. Therefore, there is a significant decrease. The street is empty,” said a barber.
