Marc Angel was elected to replace former European Parliament (EP) Vice President Eva Kaili, who was arrested for involving in a corruption and money laundering scandal in the EP. As a result of a vote at the EP Plenary Session, Angel, a member of the Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, won 307 of the 590 valid votes.
Kaili, who had been a member of the EP for 8 years, and a few other names, were dismissed by EP President Metsola after 1.5 million euros were confiscated in the investigations carried out against them.
