Thousands of Colombians flooded the streets in numerous cities, expressing dissent over political, economic, and social reforms spearheaded by President Gustavo Petro. The protesters called for action to address the deteriorating security situation in the country. Chanting slogans like “No more Petro” and “Petro, out!” the demonstrators peacefully marched in Bogota and other cities, totaling around 52 thousand participants, according to police reports.
The government’s reform initiatives, spanning health, retirement, employment, and education, faced strong opposition in Congress. President Petro defended the reforms, emphasizing their benefits for the country’s poorest segments. Since taking office in 2022, the left-wing leader has prioritized addressing poverty and inequality.
