A fire broke out at the Lazaro Cardenas oil refinery, owned by Pemex, in the city of Minatitlan, in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Firefighters, Mexican army were dispatched to the area to respond to the fire that broke out in a cooling tower under repair. While the flames rising from the region surrounded the sky, the authorities stated that the fire did not pose a danger to the people living in the vicinity. With the help of refinery personnel, the fire was extinguished after hours of effort. Initial reports indicated that the fire was caused by a fuel leak.
Last April, another huge fire broke out at the Lazaro Cardenas oil refinery in Minatitlan, injuring 7 people.
