A forest fire in Ofunato, Japan, has been burning for six days, destroying at least 2,100 hectares of land and forcing 1,197 people into temporary shelters.
The fire, which began on February 26 in Iwate Prefecture, spread to residential areas, prompting evacuation warnings for 4,596 residents. Firefighters from 14 prefectures, along with Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, are battling the flames as containment efforts continue.
