Massive Glacier Breaks Off Tajikistan’s Ismail Somoni Peak

A 2-kilometer-long and 25-meter-high glacier broke off from Ismail Somoni Peak in Tajikistan’s Pamir Mountains, sliding down the valley in a dramatic scene linked to climate change.

The Tajik Emergency Situations Committee said the glacier, up to 200 meters wide, detached around 11 a.m. local time and was stabilized by 2 p.m. No casualties or damage were reported.
