Ninety-five vehicles were involved in a pileup on the Astana-Petropavlovsk highway in the north and east of Kazakhstan at around 1:28 p.m. local time during a severe snowstorm. Local police reported that 11 people were injured.
According to Kazakhstan’s road construction company KazAvtoJol, traffic restrictions were imposed on the section of the highway due to bad weather conditions in the morning, and it was reopened to traffic under the supervision of traffic police after the weather conditions improved and the roads were cleared, and the accident was caused by drivers not adhering to the speed limit and keeping a safe distance.
