A magnitude 8.8 earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered a tsunami that flooded parts of Severo-Kurilsk. Waves up to 4 meters caused damage, and evacuations were carried out. Japan observed 50 cm waves and urged nearly 2 million people to evacuate. Hawaii, the Philippines, and Mexico also issued coastal warnings.
