A medallion featuring Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II was put up for auction at the “Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds including Oriental Rugs and Carpets” auction organized by Christie’s Auction House in London, the capital of England. The medallion, cast in Naples in 1481 by the Italian artist Constanzo da Ferrara, sold for GBP 38,000.
It is known that Ferrara, who came to Istanbul upon Mehmed’s request from Italy, worked in the palace of Ferrante, the Ruler of Naples at that time.
