Alfredo Cabrera, a mayoral candidate in Mexico’s Guerrero state, was shot and killed at a rally in Coyuca de Benitez. The assassination, which occurred just days before the June 2 election, was recorded by the attacker on a mobile phone. Social media footage shows Cabrera shaking hands with supporters when the attacker approached, pulled out a gun, and fired multiple shots, hitting Cabrera in the head. Cabrera died at the scene, and the attacker was subsequently killed by the Mexican National Guard. Local media reported that Cabrera had been under police protection following a previous armed attack in 2023.
