Mexico fights dozens of wildfires

The wildfire that started on March 24 in the city of Santiago, located in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, reportedly got out of control due to strong winds. Citizens in some settlements in the surrounding area were warned that they could evacuate at any time.

The Municipality of Santiago has banned the lighting of fires in events such as entertainment and festivals in the city. It was reported that a team of 355 people from the National Guard, Mexican Army and the regional fire department took part in the fight against the forest fire, which has turned an area of ​​​​4,000 hectares into ash so far, and 7 aircraft supported the extinguishing efforts.

The fight against the fire in El Cielo Ecological Park in Tamaulipas state, another major forest fire in the north of the country, has been going on since March 17. So far, the fire has turned an area of ​​1,900 hectares into ash. 370 firefighters and 3 helicopters were involved in the fight against the fire.

In the statement made by the Mexican National Forestry Commission (Conafor), it was reported that there are 42 forest fires continuing throughout the country, and a total of 1,814 firefighters are actively responding to the fires.
