In Mexico, where there are 100 million registered voters, people went to voting points yesterday between 08:00 and 18:00 local time to elect the new president. The first official preliminary results are expected to be announced late Sunday.
Election surveys estimate that 61-year-old Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate of the ruling party National Renewal Movement, will win the presidential race, also becoming Mexico’s first female president.
Thirty-eight candidates were killed during the election campaigns.
