The world’s only Miniature Book Museum, where miniature books smaller than 7.5 cm are exhibited in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, attracts great interest from museum lovers. Opened in 2002 by Zarife Salahova, the sister of Azerbaijan’s famous painter Tahir Salahova, the museum, which houses books from 93 countries, hosts 2,000 visitors a month from all over the world.
“Our collection entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2014 with 2,913 books. The first of the most important books in our museum is the oldest miniature Quran from Saudi Arabia, dating back to the 17th century. The second most important book is Yevgeny Onig by Alexander Pushkin. The third most important work is a 0.75 mm book called Four Seasons Flowers, also known as the world’s smallest book, published in Japan in 2012 and consisting of four parts. At the same time, there is Ümit Yaşar Işıkkan’s ‘Sadness After Love’ from Türkiye, Melih Cevdet’s books and most importantly, Atatürk’s ‘The Speech’,” said Gülnur Mammadova, a museum official.
“The fact that the world’s smallest book is only in Baku and that you can view it, which consists of 22 pages, on a smart board is really surprising,” said a visitor.
