Münire Sultan’s Holy Quran Auctioned for €114,000 in London

A manuscript of the Holy Quran, commissioned in 1860 by Münire Sultan, daughter of Sultan Abdülmecid I, was auctioned for €114,300 at the “Islamic World and Indian Arts” event held yesterday at Sotheby’s Auction House in London, the capital of England, where various works of Ottoman calligraphers were also put up for auction.

The Ottoman work, known to have been written on behalf of Münire Sultan’s wife İbrahim İlhami Pasha, is seen as one of the best examples of the Turkish rococo that left its mark on the 18th century and especially the 19th century.
