NATO Pledges €20B for Ukraine in 2025

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that allies have committed over €20 billion in security aid to Ukraine for 2025. Speaking ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brussels, Rutte reaffirmed continued support for Ukraine and highlighted ongoing coordination efforts from NATO’s Wiesbaden command.

Rutte warned that Russia remains a threat, citing its ties with China, Iran, and North Korea. He dismissed Russian demands for a ceasefire on pre-1997 borders, saying they should not be taken seriously.

Addressing US-NATO relations, Rutte stated that the US remains committed to Europe but urged European allies to take on more responsibility. He also emphasized NATO’s focus on Arctic security amid increasing Russian militarization and China’s use of new sea routes.

China Hikes Tariffs on US Goods to 84 Percent

China raised tariffs on US imports from 34% to 84% starting April 10, escalating tensions in an ongoing trade dispute. Beijing also imposed export controls on 12 US firms and added six more to its “unreliable entities list.”

The move follows the US decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods to 104%, after former President Donald Trump announced an additional 34% duty on April 2. In response, China matched the rate and warned of further retaliation.

China’s Foreign Ministry criticized the US tariffs as violations of international trade rules and warned it is ready to defend its economic interests if the trade war continues.
