The NATO Leaders’ Summit began in The Hague with leaders discussing plans to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP and address crises in Ukraine and the Middle East. President Erdoğan briefly met with US President Trump before the session. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the alliance the strongest in history and praised the US role in urging European allies to increase spending. Dutch PM Dick Schoof noted the summit is the first held in the Netherlands and expects historic decisions on defense and alliance balance.
