NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized the need for increased defense spending, urging European allies and Canada to invest more to maintain security and deter war. Speaking at the NATO Defense Ministers Meeting in Brussels, Rutte highlighted that European allies have contributed over 700 billion dollars to defense in the past decade, but more efforts are needed.
Rutte stressed the importance of strengthening NATO’s defense industry, praising the US, Europe, and Türkiye for their advanced capabilities. He called for faster production to stay ahead of Russia and China. The meeting also addressed Russia’s destabilization efforts and ongoing support for Ukraine, with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in attendance.
