North Korea announced the successful testing of missile and artillery systems on its new 5,000-ton warship, “Choe Hyon,” launched last week. The vessel tested supersonic and strategic cruise missiles, anti-aircraft systems, and a 127 mm cannon, with Kim Jong-un overseeing the drills.
Kim called for accelerating the navy’s nuclear armament, stating, “It is time to strengthen our maritime nuclear deterrence.” He highlighted the role of high-tech weapons in modern warfare and ordered continued production of warships and nuclear-powered submarines.
The ship, named after “anti-Japanese revolutionary” Choe Hyon, will enter service early next year. Its launch marked the 93rd anniversary of North Korea’s military founding.
