New York Mayor Eric Adams hosted an iftar dinner at Gracie Mansion, inviting around 200 Muslim community leaders. During the event, Adams highlighted Ramadan’s themes of compassion and sacrifice, emphasizing unity in the city. He also noted his administration’s decision to allow mosques to broadcast the call to prayer on Fridays.
The dinner was catered by Ali Baba, a well-known Turkish restaurant in New York. Owner Ali Rıza Doğan, who has organized iftar events for 18 years, stressed the importance of promoting Turkish cuisine and culture.
Outside the venue, hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated against Adams’ support for Israel. Police implemented strict security measures, removing some demonstrators while others criticized Muslim leaders attending the event.
