NYC Launches $9 Traffic Congestion Fee

New York City has implemented the USA’s first “traffic congestion fee” to address heavy traffic in Manhattan. Vehicles entering designated zones south of 60th Street during peak hours will be charged $9, with a reduced fee of $2.25 during off-peak times.

The toll applies to several major tunnels and bridges, excluding main routes like the FDR Drive and West Side Highway. The fee operates weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

President-elect Donald Trump has criticized the initiative, calling it a harmful tax that could hurt New York’s economy and pledging to revoke the measure after taking office.
