The Gaza Strip has been under relentless attack from Israel for the past 76 days, resulting in an alarming rise in casualties. The Israeli army’s assaults have relentlessly targeted civilian settlements and hospitals, causing a surge in fatalities and exacerbating the crisis. Ghebreyesus, speaking on behalf of the WHO, addressed the escalating humanitarian crisis, saying only 4 hospitals left remaining operaitonal.
Following observations conducted by WHO and UN delegations in the region, Ghebreyesus confirmed the delivery of crucial medical aid, including medications, serum, and essential surgical materials, to Al Ahli Arab (Baptist) and Shifa Hospitals. These provisions aim to support surgical procedures and aid in the treatment of the injured.
Expressing deep concern over the substantial damage inflicted on healthcare facilities in recent attacks, Ghebreyesus lamented, “Our colleagues on the ground faced immense challenges in conveying the dire conditions experienced by both patients and healthcare workers.”
