Orban Seeks Erdoğan’s Support in Ukraine Peace Mission

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban praised Türkiye’s mediation efforts in the Russia-Ukraine war during his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the NATO Summit in Washington. Orban highlighted that Türkiye is the only country successfully mediating between the warring parties.

In a social media post, Orban stated, “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is an important partner for our peace mission.” He emphasized the need for Erdoğan’s support, saying, “Türkiye has already proven itself to be an indispensable player in establishing peace during war. President Erdoğan was the only successful statesman who was able to conclude the Russia-Ukraine agreement on grain shipments in the Black Sea.”

Orban further elaborated in a video message, “We need peace and peace initiatives if we are to end the suffering. The positions of the warring parties are still far apart. Only if the friends of peace join forces can we take the next step towards peace together.”
