A strike by workers affiliated with the Verdi labor union at Hamburg Airport in Germany that was expected to start at midnight started in the morning hours, causing over 100 flights to be canceled.
“As a result of the work stoppage by workers affiliated with the Verdi labor union, only about 10 of the 144 landings and 139 takeoffs planned today were carried out,” said authorities.
Public and ground services workers at 11 airports across the country will go on strike this midnight. More than 3,400 flights are expected to be canceled, and 510,000 passengers are expected to be affected.
