Protests over the killing and raping of a trainee doctor in the state hospital she was working in in the Indian state of West Bengal continue to grow. Anger over the country’s failure to deter the rising tide of violence against women has fueled the protests by doctors and women’s groups.
The Indian Medical Association has called on doctors across the country to shut down all services except emergency services for 24 hours starting tomorrow morning, and more than 1 million doctors will be on strike for a day tomorrow.
Police say more than 1,500 people have been detained so far.
