Heavy monsoon rains and water released from Indian dams on the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers have triggered massive floods in Pakistan’s Punjab province. At least 22 people were killed, hundreds are missing, and more than 600,000 residents were evacuated as villages and farmland were submerged.
Officials said about 200,000 people near the rivers were moved after warnings, with boats rescuing 32,000 trapped villagers. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the disaster zone, directing emergency relief. Since June, monsoon-related floods and landslides across Pakistan have killed 822 people and injured over 1,000, according to the NDMA.
