A passenger plane of LATAM Airlines, which was about to take off from Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, the capital of Peru, to go to the city of Juliaca, crashed into a fire truck on the runway. The fire department said that 2 firefighters in the fire truck lost their lives.
The airline stated that 102 passengers and 6 crew members in the plane were taken to health centers as a precaution. “We are deeply saddened by the death of 2 firefighters in the fire truck that collided with the plane,” the company said.
Peru’s President Pedro Castillo said: “My condolences to the families of firefighters Angel Torres and Nicolas Santa Gadea, who lost their lives in the accident at Jorge Chavez Airport. My thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Lima Airport Partners, which operates the airport, announced that all operations were suspended, and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
