A passenger on a Greek ferry, who had boarded at the last minute, tragically drowned after a confrontation with an officer led to him being pushed into the sea. The incident, captured on video, showed the passenger’s struggle with two officers before one of them forcefully pushed him overboard as the ferry departed. The victim, identified as Antonis Karyotis, lost his life in the incident, which has sparked outrage.
In response, two officers and four crew members, including the captain, have been detained for investigation. An autopsy confirmed the passenger’s cause of death as drowning. Greek Maritime Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis expressed deep sadness over the incident, calling the footage disturbing. The ferry company has pledged full cooperation with the authorities in the ongoing investigation.
