The Megi tropical storm, which was effective in the Philippines, negatively affected the life in the country. The death toll from Megi, the first tropical storm to hit the country this year, rose to 56. In the country where at least 42,000 people were evacuated, 200 people were injured. The most destruction occurred in Baybay city in Leyte province due to the tropical storm that caused houses and roads to remain under the ground.

Search and rescue efforts intensified in the city of Baybay in the east of the country, where most of the casualties were seen.

Baybay Mayor Jose Carlos Cari stated that there is food and medicine in the city and that the problem is the management in the evacuation centres.
