Turkish Police Deport 250 Illegal ımmigrants, Arrest 17 Smugglers

In the past two months, Türkiye’s Şanlıurfa Provincial Police Department conducted 12 targeted operations, resulting in the apprehension and deportation of 250 irregular immigrants. Additionally, 24 individuals suspected of organizing illegal border crossings and subsequent transportation were detained. Among them, 17 organizers were arrested and remanded to prison following their court proceedings.

The police crackdown, conducted throughout November and December, dealt a significant blow to immigrant smuggling networks operating in the region. Those detained were found to be involved in facilitating the illegal entry of individuals across borders and attempting to transport them to various regions.

Moreover, authorities seized a total of 22 vehicles linked to these operations, intensifying efforts to curtail illegal immigration activities.

As Eid al-Adha approaches, the historic district of Hasankeyf in Türkiye’s Batman province is preparing to welcome both local and foreign tourists. Located along the Tigris River, Hasankeyf is known for its deep-rooted history and striking cultural landmarks.

Local tradesmen have begun holiday preparations. Muhyettin Talayhan, a souvenir seller for 12 years, said, “We are producing magnets to leave beautiful memories for our guests.” Another shopkeeper, Memet Salih İnalöz, added, “Even though this Eid may be quieter due to the heat and short holiday, we are still ready to welcome visitors.”

Beyza Tekçe, a tourist from Izmir, said her visit exceeded expectations: “Some parts are under water, but what remains is truly fascinating.”

Hasankeyf will greet visitors with highlights such as the Zeynel Bey Tomb, ancient stone bridge remains, and a traditional bazaar.
