The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli attacks continue, announced yesterday that a polio virus epidemic has started in the region.
Dr. Muhammed Rayyan, Director of the Reception Unit of Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital, who holds Israel responsible for the spread of the virus, stated that Israel’s attacks caused thousands of tons of garbage to accumulate in the streets, leakage in sewage water and contamination of groundwater. He also added that the blocking of humanitarian aid to the region has also prevented access to hygiene materials, causing diseases to spread quickly.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip stated yesterday that polio virus was detected in sewage water in Khan Younis and the central region and that the situation poses a health threat to neighboring countries and disrupts the global polio eradication program.
