Pope Francis has arrived in East Timor, the last stop of his 12-day Asia Pacific tour. The Catholic leader was greeted with affection by thousands of people in the capital, Dili, and a welcome ceremony was organized for him in the Presidential Palace.
Pope Francis is the second Pope to visit East Timor after Pope John Paul II, who visited the country on October 12, 1989 during the Indonesian occupation, and the first Pope to visit since East Timor gained its independence from Indonesia in 2002.
