Portuguese authorities intercepted a semi-submarine carrying over 1.7 tons of cocaine in the Atlantic Ocean, arresting four crew members—two Ecuadorians, one Venezuelan, and one Colombian. Officials said the vessel was heading toward the Iberian Peninsula.
Portugal’s anti-drug chief Vítor Ananias noted that the mixed nationalities show the network operates beyond any single country. The Lisbon-based Maritime Analysis and Operations Center said the submarine was tracked after intelligence indicated it was bound for Europe.
