The electricity grid in Moore County, North Carolina, USA has been sabotaged. After the attack, 40,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity. A state of emergency was declared in the region.

Adding that the incident is being investigated by local, state and federal law enforcements, including the FBI, Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said that the cause of Saturday night’s attack is currently unknown.

US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said on social media that they were in contact with Duke Energy Corp, owner of the substations, and that FBI is investigating the deliberate damage to the facilities.

Officials said repairs to the power grid could last until Thursday.

Columbia University has agreed to pay $221 million in settlements following a federal investigation into allegations of failing to protect Jewish students. Under the agreement, the university will pay $200 million over the next three years. Interim President Claire Shipman called the settlement a significant step after a period of federal scrutiny.

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon praised Columbia’s reforms as a model for other universities, while President Trump expressed satisfaction with the historic settlement. The university also announced disciplinary actions against over 70 students involved in pro-Palestinian protests, including suspensions and expulsions.
