Despite the restrictions issued against fireworks shows since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, thousands gathered in the most popular Prague square Staromestke Namesti and around the Vltava River to welcome the new year with fireworks and songs. Eight were recorded to have been wounded due to the fireworks shows.
Prague fire brigade responded to 139 fires caused by fireworks during the day-long celebrations.
An assailant was taken into custody after kicking a police officer who warned him for not following the rules. The officer was hospitalized with wounds in their head.
