Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who went to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Turkish invasion of Cyrpus, visited the Atatürk Monument in Nicosia with his Cypriot counterpart Ersin Tatar. Laying a wreath at the monument, Erdoğan signed the Monument Special Book and left a note after a 1-minute silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem.
The operation in question was launched by the Turkish armed forces in order to regain control after the coup that broke out in Cyprus in 1974.
