Nearly 3,000 supporters of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and his party United National Movement have gathered outside prison urging his release. Party’s chairman Nika Melia along with thousands of supporters gathered in front of prison No. 12 in Rustavi city in southeast region of the country. Founder of Georgia’s main opposition party, the United National Movement was arrested ahead of elections on October 1st. Jn the capital Tibilisi.
“Saakashvili gave an example of how to fight.” Party’s Chairman Melia said in his speech outside the prison adding “We have a choice of civilization ahead of us. We are participating in a very historical process. This process means that we either will return to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) or towards global civilization.”
