Peruvian protesters, demanding the resignation of the President Dina Boluarte and early elections, marched to the capital city of Lima. At least 3,500 people marched through the streets of the capital, according to the police. As the protests escalated, a fire broke out in San Martin Plaza, a historic building in the center of the city. Firefighter officials stated that the cause of the fire is not yet known and that the building was largely empty. The flames were extinguished after 3 hours.
Additionally, in Arequipa, the protesters tried to break into Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport. During the raid at the airport, 22 police officers and 16 civilians were injured, and it was announced that the airport was temporarily closed.
