Anti-vaccine protesters occupied the regional legislature on Guadeloupe Island, a French overseas territory. After the negotiations stalled, placards bearing the words “No to the Compulsory Vaccine” were displayed in the regional council building, demanding that they oppose France’s decision to fire medics who had not received the Covid-19 vaccine and that the government reverse this decision. Increase in employment and wages were also among the demands of the demonstrators.

Following the incident, Speaker of the regional legislature on Guadeloupe Ary Chalus agreed to meet with representatives from the group, but Guadeloupe and Paris authorities claimed that the protest was unacceptably disruptive and not suitable for democracy. The obligation to show vaccination cards to enter public and indoor places is extended on the island.
