Protests Break Out due to Economic Reform Bill in Argentina

A clash broke out between the police and protesters during the demonstrations held by thousands of citizens against the economic reform package prepared by the government of President Javier Milei in Argentina. Five opposition MPs who were exposed to tear gas were taken to the hospital and dozens of others received medical attention at the scene. Authorities stated that at least 20 police officers were injured, 15 people were detained.

The reform package, opposed by left-wing political parties, labor unions, retirees, teachers and non-governmental organizations, includes articles such as declaring an economic emergency, cuts in pensions and workers’ rights, and privatization of public institutions.

The 238-article reform package will be submitted to the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress, for final approval after reviewed by the Senate, the upper house of Congress.
