Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi attended, via video conference, the ceremony installing the reactor vessel for the first power unit of Egypt’s El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The plant is being built by Russia’s state nuclear firm Rosatom under a 2015 agreement.
El-Sisi called the project a “new page” in Egypt’s history, saying it will strengthen the country’s peaceful nuclear capabilities and create thousands of jobs. Once completed, the four-unit plant will provide about 10 percent of Egypt’s electricity.
