The death toll from a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Shigatse, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, has risen to 95, with at least 130 reported injured.
The earthquake struck the Dingri region of Shigatse at 09:05 local time, according to the China Earthquake Network Center, with the tremor recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake caused widespread destruction, collapsing many buildings and impacting a large area. Initial reports had confirmed nine fatalities, but the toll has significantly increased as rescue efforts continue.
