The 4-day Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, held in St. Paul’s Cathedral with Thanksgiving Mass today. While the Queen is expected to attend the event, Buckingham Palace on the evening of June 2 announced that Queen Elizabeth II preferred not to attend the ceremony in the cathedral due to the her illness. The 96-year-old Queen, the longest reigning monarch in the UK, was represented by her son Charles, Prince of Wales, at Thanksgiving Mass. Members of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force were waiting outside the cathedral for the ceremony, while the country’s largest church bell, St. Paul’s Cathedral began to be played. The ceremony was attended by Cambridge Duke Prince William, Cambridge Duchess Kate Middleton, Wales Prince Charles and his wife, Cornwall Duchess Camilla, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who left their royal duties, and other members of the Royal family. In addition, government ministers such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie Johnson, Foreign Minister Liz Truss, Home Secretary Priti Patel and Labor Party Leader Keir Starmer were also present at the ceremony.
